Greening Up The Mountains 4/28/18

This is a video of an impromptu interview with WNCC 104.1 from Greening up the Mountains.

Greening up the Mountains is a festival held in beautiful Sylva, NC which was once an eco-friendly event.

Now, the event serves as a welcoming of spring after the cold, dark winter in which local businesses and non-profit organizations set up booths. The Smoky Mountain Rollergirls had a booth with contests and merchandise for purchasing.

Deadbeat Darla, Peaches & Scream, and me (Fly By Birdie) were handing out flyers detailing this season's schedule when we were stopped by the event coordinator for the 80's parade being held in Franklin this fall.

Shortly thereafter, we were approached to be interviewed about our upcoming bout on May 6th.

Although this video is loud and hard to hear, I was very proud of my ability to come up with the correct information on the spot, live, and on the radio. I once was heavily involved in theatre and dramatics in High School, but I am very rusty!

I was also very proud of my team for leading the Merch booth (even though, as a part of the Merch committee, I was the one who insisted on bringing it to begin with). I also run Smoky Mountain Rollergirls PR Committee and Social Media (Instagram). Although it can be a bit overwhelming at times, I enjoy helping my team afford track supplies and travel expenses!

My involvement in merch also allows my team to continue to give to charities at each home bout. During our May 9th bout, we were able to donate over half of our proceeds to P.A.W.S. of Bryson City! In turn, they brought some amazing Fur-Babies for us to cuddle before the bout!

For now, I will leave you with this video of me cuddling with these sweet dogs before my first winning game of the season!

Since then we have won one game in Savannah, and we head to Macon, GA next weekend to (hopefully) continue the winning streak!

Wish us luck, but unlike Theatre, please don't tell a derby player to "Break a leg"!
